Estate & Facilities Manager | Hermanus

𝗝𝗗 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 is assisting a well-established wine estate in the Hermanus area, in sourcing an experienced senior 𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘 & 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗥.

Our client is one of South Africa’s most respected wine estates, situated in the Western Cape Winelands. The estate is currently undergoing significant renovation and investment, and is seeking a senior, professional Estate & Facilities Manager to take long-term ownership of its infrastructure, assets and built environment.

This is a senior leadership role, not a hands-on maintenance position. The successful candidate will be well-presented and professionally credible, with strong technical knowledge (an engineering background is advantageous) and the maturity to build an effective team, manage contractors and specialist service providers, oversee capital projects and budgets, and establish a robust preventative maintenance and asset-management function. The role demands someone with real seniority, sound judgement and a long-term approach to infrastructure stewardship.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

• Take custodianship of the estate’s built environment — overseeing the maintenance, servicing and condition of all buildings, facilities, hospitality spaces, staff accommodation, vehicles, equipment and operational infrastructure.
• Oversee all water and utility infrastructure: boreholes, pumps, filtration systems, reservoirs, reticulation networks, electrical systems, refrigeration, plumbing, gas and associated critical services.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance programme — establishing schedules, asset registers, service histories and lifecycle plans; resolving issues before they escalate.
• Build and lead the maintenance team; manage contractor selection, performance and project delivery from initiation through to completion; obtain and evaluate quotations and make sound recommendations.
• Ensure full compliance with health, safety and OHS legislation; maintain firefighting, CCTV, access control and security systems; embed a safety-first culture across all maintenance activities.
• Develop and manage maintenance operating budgets and capital expenditure; monitor spend; prepare regular reports on asset condition, project status and operational risks.

𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior facilities, estate or maintenance management leadership role.
• Strong technical knowledge across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, water systems and general building maintenance; an engineering background or qualification is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience implementing preventative maintenance programmes and managing maintenance budgets.
• Experience managing teams, contractors and specialist service providers.
• Experience within wine estates, hospitality, agriculture, manufacturing or similarly complex operational environments is advantageous.
• Well-presented, professionally credible and able to operate confidently at a senior level.
• High attention to detail, strong planning and project management ability, and sound judgement.
• Valid driver’s licence; willingness to work outside normal hours when required.
